What is the role of a teacher recruiter?
Ever wondered how a teacher recruiter can place you? RRR can land you your dream job and support you. Here’s what a teacher recruiter does, and what that means for you.
On a day-to-day basis, we recruit and connect great educators with great schools globally. We find staff for school leaders, and we find schools for highly-qualified teachers and other staff – helping them to secure their ideal, dream job. Alongside getting the teachers the right role, we make sure they get the support they need, which could be helping them write a CV or assisting with after-care such like setting up a bank account or helping them find the right accommodation to live in!
How does the process work?
RRR have tried-and-tested systems and vetting procedures that we believe enable us to recruit ‘la crème de la crème.
We meet teachers on a daily basis. Often it is at a university presentation or recruitment fair. Nowadays it is increasingly via the web. We’re delighted to say it is often and increasingly by one teacher recommending us to another. To us, this shows we are meeting our aspiration to offer a high-quality service.
When we first talk to teachers, we try to give them a sense of what teacher recruiters have to offer. We start to build the relationship with the teacher that enables us to offer the best advice we can for that individual. We never say ‘no’ to a teacher, but we do recommend to about one in five a different pathway that eventually will lead to a job, but not right now. Some aren’t ready professionally, some aren’t ready personally.
What do teacher recruiters believe in?
We are here to help. RRR at the end of the day want to get high-quality teachers teaching in highly reputable schools where they will enjoy teaching and make an impact. We want to make school leaders’ lives easier by taking the stress out of the recruitment process, and teachers’ lives easier with our support package, such as ‘safe and sound arrival.’
We believe we do more than any other recruiter to make teachers’ transition to their new school as easy as possible. Our data shows that what we do is not only successful in recruiting teachers, but also in retaining teachers. We think most school leaders would say that retention of teachers is sometimes like trying to hold water in your cupped hands, impossible. We solve that.
How do teacher recruiters work with the school?
We see RRR as a conduit between schools and teachers. If we do this well, we have two very happy clients.
No two schools are identical, so we get to know each school to offer them a solution tailored to their employment needs. In the same way, no two teachers are the same. We listen to what our teachers need, and then provide it. As simple as that.
With everyone, school leaders and teachers, it is all about building trust, finding out exactly what they need from RRR, and then meeting that need.
Employing a new person or accepting a new job is always a big step. Some of our teachers are also moving to a new country. Whether you are the employer or the employee, this can make it seem more complicated. With our years of experience and the expertise we have built up, we can offer the solution.
How do I know a teacher recruiter will get the job right?
It’s all about the match. The match of school and teacher. We take the time to get to know what both clients are looking for, then we find the best teacher to fit the school’s criteria, or the best school to match the teacher’s criteria.
If we don’t already have a good match, then we go out and find one. We have experience as our main recruiter used to be a head teacher. He didn’t want a recruitment agency ‘phoning him and saying, ‘We’re sorry we haven’t got a teacher for you.’ We believe there is always a solution. We need to persevere till we find that teacher. We say to our staff, ‘There is a teacher out there just right for this vacancy, we just haven’t found that teacher yet.’ Mind you, we don’t cut corners or lower standards. We also say, ‘Never put forward a teacher you wouldn’t be happy to have teach your own children.’ For me, that is a red line.
That isn’t to say we don’t get it wrong occasionally. Once every three or four years we get the match wrong. This is traumatic for the teacher, disruptive for the students’ education and something extra on their ‘To Do’ list the school leaders weren’t expecting. Solving this becomes our top priority. We’re happy to say, so far, we have always succeeded.
How does a teacher recruiter support the teacher?
Once the teacher has been appointed to the school, RRR offers a support package like no other, and we pride ourselves on this. Let us give you an example. About nine in every ten teachers take up our accommodation service. This guarantees you will be housed with other teachers. If you are alone, a ready-made friendship group. If you are with a friend or friends, we guarantee accommodation together. We believe this is key. You are going to spend most of your time in your accommodation, not your school. You need to be happy, with people you like. As we said earlier, this is a huge part of solving the retention problem for schools.
So, you see, we aim to go above and beyond what any other recruitment service offers once the job is secured because the process of starting a new job, probably in a different location, possibly a different country, can be daunting. Hopefully, with RRR by your side everything is more doable for you.
